JLPT N4 Grammar

JLPT N4 Grammar -koto ni naru 〜ことになる ‘It has been decided that..’

The meaning of -koto ni naru 〜ことになる – 意味

It has been decided that…
It will be decided that…

Please have in mind that the decision is made by the others(schools, companies, other friends, a natural course of the event, etc) in this grammar!

When you talk about your own decision,  you will use -koto ni suru(〜ことにする) not -koto ni naru(〜ことになる)!

If you hear koto to narimasu(ことなります) instead of koto ni narimasu(ことなります), it means they talk politer but the meaning is the same!

You cannot say your own decision, so this is a bad example:

Nagaku nobashita kami wo asatte kiru koto ni narimashita.
It’s been decided to cut my hair that I grew so long.
This sounds unnatural! Unless you are a Japanese idol who is being programmed when to cut your hair!

instead this sounds far natural,
長く伸ばした髪をあさって切ることにしました。💇‍♀️
Nagaku noboashita kami wo asatte kiru koto ni shimashita.
I have decided to cut my hair that I grew long.
(Remember -koto ni suru(〜ことにする)is for your own decision, right?)
